The Ministry of Education has extended the reporting date for Form One students to Friday next week to allow all students take up their slots.

Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang said they want to ensure 100 percent transition rate, following an alarm raised by headteachers that not all students had reported to school.

The exercise that started on Monday was to end today.

"All schools - both public and private - are directed to upload all admitted students' names into Nemis system immediately," Dr Kipsang said in a circular to education officials.

Yesterday, Dr Kipsang said they intend to see 1,052,364 students joining secondary schools, while insisting that admissions must be done digitally through the National Education Management Information System (Nemis).

"The Ministry of Education will therefore be able to harmonise all the data and hence have a single source of data. It will also be able to secure factual and accurate information for proper planning and budget allocation," he said.

Uriri MP Mark Nyamita had asked the government to consider extending the reporting date so that parents can put their finances in order.

"We risk having bright but needy students missing their hard-earned slots due to ministerial policies that can otherwise be made compatible with prevailing economic circumstances," Mr Nyamita said.
