Schools in North Rift register big improvement in KCSE

  • Kapsabet Girls had one A, 15 A-, 34 Bs and 62 B-.
  • At Moi Girls High School in Eldoret, Principal Loice Karoney was full of praise for her class of 2018, which had given her at least 14 As and more than 67 A-.
  • The sister Segero Adventist High School had two candidates scoring A-, 18 B+, 40 B, 50 B-, 56 C+, 55 C, and 27 C-.
  • In Turkana County, Lochi Akai Mercy of Turkana Girls Higher School was the best candidate, with a score of A-.

Kapsabet Boys in Nandi County registered impressive results in this year’s national exams, garnering at least 26 As, up from three last year. The Principal, Mr Kipchumba Maiyo, said the school had 334 candidates.

The neighbouring Kapsabet Girls had one A, 15 A-, 34 Bs and 62 B-. The school had a mean grade of 8.37 points, compared to 7.7 points last year.

At Moi Girls High School in Eldoret, Principal Loice Karoney was full of praise for her class of 2018, which had given her at least 14 As and more than 67 A-. She attributed the remarkable results to the stringent measures put in place by the government to curb examination cheating.

The school had 344 candidates, whom Ms Karoney said she was proud of “because they have done much better than the 2017 class”. The school had 9 A and 47 A- last year.

IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

At Segero Adventist National Academy in Uasin Gishu, three candidates scored A-, 15 B+, 11 B, 9 C+, and one C. The school had a mean grade score of 9.071 (B), up from 8.66 last year.

The sister Segero Adventist High School had two candidates scoring A-, 18 B+, 40 B, 50 B-, 56 C+, 55 C, and 27 C-.

The chairman of the school, Prof Philip K Rono, and the school Principal, Mr Oscar Musamuli, attributed the improved performance to teamwork between teachers and students, a better understanding of the new examination format, and general discipline.

POOR INTERNET COVERAGE

In Turkana County, Lochi Akai Mercy of Turkana Girls Higher School was the best candidate, with a score of A-.

At St Joseph Girls Chepterit, the Principal, Ms Priscilla Kamau was still struggling to download the results by the time of going to press. The download progress was hampered by poor Internet coverage at the school.
