Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has said he will not resign from his position.

Mr Sossion instead asked his tormentors to leave the union if they are not interested in his leadership.

"The union is under attack. What we are witnessing is a classic arrangement to destroy the union and as such we need to get rid of the outside forces that are drawing us back," he said during the union's Kakamega branch annual general meeting at Shanderema Secondary School.

He shared a platform with Knut acting chairman Wycliffe Omucheyi, who is fighting for his ouster.

At the meeting, branch officials from Kakamega, Nandi, Bungoma and Vihiga counties vowed to stand by Mr Sossion.

Mr Omucheyi did not address the event but Mr Sossion extended an olive branch to him.

Kakamega Knut chairman Patrick Chungani said they they support Mr Sossion as far as the ouster matter is concerned.
