An aspirant for the Kiambu Governor’s seat James Nyoro joined Water minister Charity Ngilu’s Narc on Wednesday.

A statement from Mrs Ngilu’s secretariat said the Narc leader would make a “major” announcement at the party’s headquarters but sources close to the Kitui Central MP revealed that she was set to receive Mr Nyoro.

“Engineer Nyoro is defecting to Narc with several Kiambu leaders, that is the announcement,” said the source who declined to be named so that he is not seen to pre-empt the announcement.

Mr Nyoro challengers include Juja MP William Kabogo and former Limuru MP George Nyanja.

His decision to join Narc is seen as a strategic move to rival Mr Kabogo from within the Jubilee Coalition, which is perceived to wield  massive influence in the county and central Kenya at large.

Narc is a partner in the Jubilee Coalition whose presidential candidate is deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.

Last month, Mr Nyoro and Mr Nyanja quit TNA citing harassment from Mr Kabogo’s supporters.

Mr Nyoro had earlier moved to Grand National Union (GNU) party led by Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri while Mr Nyanja defected to Musalia Mudavadi’s United Democratic Forum (UDF).

Mr Nyoro and Mr Nyanja claimed the recent elections were rigged to favour Mr Kabogo in the party's nominations.
