Uhuru, Ruto to be sworn-in

President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto will be sworn-in on Tuesday morning at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Mr Kenyatta accompanied by his wife Margaret arrived at the venue at 11:45am minutes after Deputy President-elect William Ruto who both received a rapturous reception by the audience in the stadium.

Some of the invited Heads of States arrived by 10:45am as per the programme.

However, the public began arriving at the venue as early as 5am to witness the inauguration ceremony.

Those in attendance include Presidents Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Jakaya Kikwete (Tanzania), Salva Kiir (South Sudan), Jacob Zuma (South Africa), Ali Bongo (Gabon), Jonathan Goodluck (Nigeria)and Joseph Kabila (DR Congo)

Other include Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (Somalia), Ismail Guelleh (Djibouti), Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe) and Haile Mariam Desalegn (Ethiopia Prime Minister).

Former President Daniel arap Moi and former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda are in attendance.

Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta, mother to Mr Kenyatta and US Human Rights activist Rev Jesse Jackson also attended the function.

Service commanders that include heads of Kenya Navy, Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Airforce also arrived for the ceremony.

Chief of Defence Forces General Julius Karangi is expected to arrive in Kasarani at 11am.

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, Registrar Gladys Shollei and Supreme Court judges have also arrived for the inaugural ceremony.

A few MPs have arrived at the venue in a bus as security is heightened with the arrival of dignitaries.

On arrival, President Mwai Kibaki will inspect the guard of honour with over 14 Heads of States in attendance. Kibaki's presidential standard will also be lowered and Mr Kenyatta's raised.

However, organisers say the 60,000 seat Kasarani stadium has been filled to capacity and those outside will be forced to watch the proceedings on giant screens.
