Kanu and Jubilee supporters have clashed in Makutano town in Kapenguria, West Pokot, ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit later today.

One person has been injured and rushed to hospital.

Supporters of Kanu gubernatorial candidate John Lonyangapuo and those of Jubilee's Simon Kachapin attacked each other just in front of the dais the President will address them from.

Police have managed to restore order after a 10-minute scuffle that has raised tension in the town.

Mr Kachapin, the incumbent, is in a tight race to retain the seat Prof Lonyangapuo has promised to take away from him.

Although the President belongs to Jubilee, Kanu has already declared its support for him in the coming elections.

This has made the race for West Pokot governor tighter.

The President tours the town just two weeks after Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga made a similar visit.
