The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has named a five-member team of legislators expected to lead talks on the disbandment of the electoral body.

On Wednesday, during the Opposition's Madaraka Day rally at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetang’ula promised to name the team today.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Thursday, Cord nominated Senators James Orengo (Siaya, ODM) and Johnson Muthama (Machakos, Wiper), MPs Eseli Simiyu (Tongaren), Mishi Mboko (Woman MP, Mombasa) and Abdikadir Aden (Balambala).

Paul Mwangi and Grace Katasi were named as joint secretaries.

The announcement came even after President Uhuru Kenyatta had denied having agreed with the Opposition to form a 10-member team to resolve the stalemate over the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

On Wednesday, Mr Odinga and Mr Wetang’ula claimed that the President had agreed the Jubilee coalition would name five MPs to hold talks with the Opposition team after they met at State House on Tuesday.

And while they addressed their supporters at Uhuru Park, the Opposition leaders threatened to resume their weekly demos against the IEBC.

Cord had suspended the marches after three protesters were killed in Kisumu and Siaya counties in the last protests.
