Nicholas Gumbo fails to unseat Cornel Rasanga in Siaya

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has survived a petition challenging his win in the August 8, 2017 poll.

The High Court threw out the petition filed by former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo on Monday due to lack of sufficient evidence to support various allegations levelled against IEBC and   Mr Rasanga.

SH3 MILLION

Mr Gumbo had claimed IEBC officials were compromised, his  agents were evicted from the polling stations and that Mr Rasanga openly  bribed voters through distribution of relief food to influence voters.

Justice Esther Maina dismissed all the claims and ruled that Mr Rasanga was validly elected.

Mr Gumbo was slapped with Sh3 million bill in  litigation costs.

Mr Midiwo had said that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials were compromised, his agents were evicted from polling stations and that Mr Odhiambo openly bribed voters.

He claimed that statutory forms were signed by strangers while others were neither stamped nor signed.

The former lawmaker had also said that Mr Odhiambo intimidated voters through violence.

The High Court dismissed his claims and ordered him to pay Sh3 million in costs.
