  • In a report to the Lang'ata Officer Commanding Station, the Police surgeon said the Ford Kenya party boss sustained multiple soft tissue injuries.

Cord co-principal Moses Wetang’ula and his wife, Ann are accusing each other of assault.

Mrs Wetang’ula was the first to report to the police on February 21 that her husband beat her on the night of February 18 at around 9 pm.

“She complained of injuries on both hands, chest and legs. She was treated at Karen Hospital and discharged,” reads the police report, which was filed under OB Number 18/21/2/2016.

Later on the same day, Mr Wetang’ula went to Lang'ata police station and made a similar report, accusing his wife of assaulting him.

Police are now investigating what exactly happened and have sought statements from witnesses at the scene.

In a note to Karen Divisional Criminal Investigations Officer marked “Alleged assault involving a VIP”, Lang'ata police said: “On February 21, 2016 at around 1150hrs, Ann Wetang’ula, a resident of Karen, came to the station and reported that on February 18, 2016 at around 9 pm she was assaulted by her husband, Hon Moses Wetang’ula, Senator for Bungoma County.

She complained of having sustained injuries on both hands, chest and legs. She was treated at Karen Hospital and discharged.”

The note continued: “On the same day at around 1830hrs, Hon Moses Wetang’ula, a resident of Mahugu Court on Karabon Road in Nairobi, also came to the station and reported having been assaulted by his wife on February 18, 2016 at around 9.30pm at their home in Karen.

He said he had accused his wife Ann of infidelity. That is when, according to him, his wife became furious and attacked him. As a result, he said he sustained injuries on his head, left hand, left leg and chest. He was treated at Karen Hospital and issued with a P3 form.”

WETANG'ULA'S INJURIES
Mr Wetang’ula’s case was recorded as OB 41/21/2/2016.

Police in Lang'ata confirmed they had received the reports but said because the alleged offences took place in Karen, the files had been taken to Karen Police Station.

Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome said he would make a comment after checking the progress of the investigation with his officers. He had not responded by the time of going to press.

Attempts to call Senator Wetang’ula failed and text messages went unanswered.

Mrs Wetang’ula also did not respond to a request for a comment Saturday.

In a report to the Lang'ata Officer Commanding Station, the Police surgeon said the Ford Kenya party boss sustained multiple soft tissue injuries.

The surgeon said the former Foreign Affairs minister “was sober and in good demeanour at the time of the medical examination”.

The report said the senator had a small swelling on the left side of his scalp. He also had soft tissue injuries on the chest, wrist, elbow and ankle which appeared to have been caused by a blunt object.

The examination took place at Karen Hospital on February 22.

This is the second time Mr Wetang’ula has found himself involved in night time drama.

On January 9, 2014, he made a report to Kilimani Police Station that a gunman had fired at his car as he was being driven on Mbagathi Way in Nairobi.

Police dismissed the report, saying that after investigations, they concluded the car hit a billboard on the roadside, causing a bang which could have been mistaken for a gunshot.
