Impressed by boda boda ride, Gideon makes Murang'a a promise

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi was overjoyed on Saturday when boda boda operators offered him a ride as his vehicles had not arrived when he landed in Murang'a County.

The senator and Kanu's national chairman, who has visited the county twice in three months, said on Saturday that the love and respect he was accorded spoke volumes.

FIRST RIDE

Mr Moi landed at Gaitheri Primary School in a helicopter.

“When I landed, my vehicles had not arrived and to my amazement, motorcycle operators came for me and requested to give me a ride. It was my first time since I was born to be carried by one. I must return to see how we can work together,” he said.

Speaking at St Stephen Church at Muringa village in Kiharu during the funeral service for Washington Kamaku, the father to Kasarani legislator Mercy Gakuya, said he was humbled by the experience.

The lawmaker added that he would like to visit the county more to see how he can work all other residents.

2022 POLL

The Kanu chair said he will make inroads in the county ahead of the 2022 general election, in which he is expected to vie for the presidency.

Mr Moi said he will have elaborate talks with the people on his plans "when that time comes".

He did not delve much into the matter of succession politics, saying he wants to dedicate himself to serving the people as senator.

RETURN TO KANU

Tiaty MP William Kamket exuded confidence that all roads will lead back to Kanu come 2022, when President Uhuru Kenyatta's second term will end.

The member of parliament, who was elected on a Kanu ticket, said all communities want to return to the independence party.

He said the Kikuyu community has great love for former President Daniel Moi and that it will be demonstrated in 2022.

“After the expiry of the president’s term, we will all go back to Kanu. That is the general feeling in the Kikuyu community,” he said.

The MP, who is an ardent supporter of Mr Moi, cautioned the Mt Kenya electorate against detecting because of false prophets, whom he said "like talking and promising heaven but deliver air".

“This community should be very cautious and learn to detect false prophets, who pretend to be sheep  but are leopards, the thieves and the corrupt. In fact, the vehicle that seems to move fast does not reach to its destination,” he said.

Mr Kamket further said that he had been trying to pull Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to "the right side of history’ and that he was optimistic.

Mr Nyoro is a strong supporter of Deputy President William Ruto.

WELCOME

Murang’a leaders who were present said the Agikuyu love the former president and welcomed the senator to the county in line with his future plans.

Women Representative Sabina Chege said, "The Kikuyu nation loves you very much so you should not feel afraid whenever you are in the county. We respect your father for taking care of this nation when he was the head of State and feel happy whenever we see him."

Others who attended the ceremony were Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Embaksi North's James Gakuya, Maragua's Mary Waithira and Kigumo MP Ruth Mwaniki.
