Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has promised to make major statement on his future political plans.

Mr Kingi, a critic of Jubilee administration, has been quiet since President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa leader Raila Odinga’s unity pact on March 9.

Coast MPs welcomed Deputy President William Ruto during his recent three-day visit to the region and pledged to work with the government. Some of the MPs promised to support Mr Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

Mr Kingi and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho have since announced they would vie for the presidency in 2022.

On his Facebook page, Mr Joho, who has been on an overseas trip, denied reports that he had decided to work with President Kenyatta.

However, he said that he is committed to any process that pursues peace, unity and justice in Kenya.

“I join my party leader (Raila) in extending a hand of cooperation with our colleagues across the (political) divide,” Mr Joho.

In an interview with Nation Tuesday, Mr Kingi said the relationship between the county and the national government was pegged on the Constitution.

“I have been silent because I don’t want to lose focus of what I am doing now, I am sure it will change the political landscape,” said Mr Kingi.

The move by Jubilee and ODM to work together has changed the political tides at the Coast with most of local leaders now showing readiness to work with the government for development.
