MPs praised the nominee for the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo as Parliament endorsed his candidature for appointment to the new office.

MPs were full of admiration to Mr Kimaiyo, nominated by President Kibaki in consultation with Prime Minister Raila Odinga, out of three nominees for the position.

He was described a man of many qualities, among them very honest, humble, religious and dedicated to service to the country.

“He has very many qualities than many people lack,” said Defence minister Yusuf Haji.

Others supporting his nomination said he was the right man for the job. However, speakers on the floor emphasised that he would not achieve much unless he is fully supported by government and allocated necessary funds by Treasury.

“We must support him otherwise he will end up a very disappointed man,” said Nyakach MP Pollyns Ochieng.

His Yatta counterpart Charles Kilonzo said Mr Kimaiyo will be frustrated if he is not given money to facilitate operations in police force.

“Give him all the support he needs and he will bring reforms to this country,” added Emuhaya MP Dr Wilbur Ottichilo.

Mr Hajji described him as a man of character who has risen through the ranks. “He is a humble officer from a humble background no matter how high he has risen,” he said.

MPs unanimously supported his nomination for appointment saying he qualifies on merit and has the ability to head the police force.

Nominated MP Millie Odhiambo said his curriculum vitae were impressive and he was the suitable candidate to run the office.

“He will lead the service at a time when the country needs leadership,” she stated.

Defence assistant minister Joseph Nkaiserry- said the officer will give the police service prudent leadership.
