Five members of Parliament have demanded that Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki be made to step aside over the loss of Sh9 billion at the National Youth Service (NYS) failing which they will start collecting signatures to censure her.

Ms Kariuki was the Public Service Cabinet Secretary when the suspicious payments were made.

Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Tindi Mwale (Butere), Bashir Abdullahi (Mandera North), Moses Kirimi (Imenti Central) and Abdikarim Osman (Fafi) said the war on corruption cannot be won if Ms Kariuki is still in office.

“This is the second theft involving millions of shillings at NYS. We are wondering what the CS is still doing in office. She should take political responsibility,” Mr Osoro said at a press conference in Parliament on Thursday.

The lawmakers also want suspended Principal Secretary Lillian Omolo to be discharged from Kenyatta National Hospital where she is receiving VIP treatment and taken to prison like other suspects.

“She needs to join her colleagues at Lang’ata Women’s Prison,” Mr Osoro said.

Mr Mwale asked why investigators only went for Ms Omollo and other officers in the ministry but did not touch the CS.
