Last week’s confrontation between Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Women Representative Rachel Shebesh has ballooned into four assault cases.

Police say besides Ms Shebesh, two men identified as her driver and messenger made a report at Parliament Police Station that they were assaulted by the governor’s security guards.

Dr Kidero had also made assault claims against Ms Shebesh at Central Police Station.

The politicians presented their doctors’ reports but investigators referred them to the official police doctor.

Ms Shebesh had obtained hers from Mbagathi Hospital while Dr Kidero sought his from Mama Lucy Hospital near Komarock.

Police say the four cases have been consolidated into one and the file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Keriako Tobiko, Wednesday.

Nairobi’s police boss Benson Kibui Tuesday visited both police stations to be briefed on the cases.

“The detectives have really done well in the matter and we expect the investigation file to be forwarded to the DPP by Wednesday. The files will be consolidated and I can assure you that nobody has interfered with the investigation,” he said.

Six witnesses had recorded statements at Parliament Police Station claiming to have seen the assault on Ms Shebesh.

In a related development, marathon champion and peace ambassador Tegla Lorupe has urged the two leaders to resolve the issue amicably.

“Our leaders, regardless of their political or any other affiliation, should take responsibility for their actions because that is the measure of our accountability. This is not a gender issue since it touches on the leadership of our nation who we elected regardless whether they are male or female,” she said.

She spoke in Nairobi in efforts to reconcile the two.

There were reports that Dr Kidero and Ms Shebesh were expected to make up at a secret venue on Sunday in a deal brokered by President Kenyatta.
