Maendeleo party members will be victorious in 2017 - Governor Mutua

More aspirants have joined Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's Maendeleo Chap Chap party ahead of the August polls.

On Tuesday, the party received hopefuls from Tharaka-Nithi County, including Francis Matanka, who is seeking the Senate seat,

Others are Tabitha Mbungu, who wants the woman rep seat, county assembly Speaker John Mbaabu, who is going for the Chuka/Igambang'ombe position, and 25 others seeking MCA seats.

Dr Mutua, in a statement, said the party is not limited to Ukambani and that it must have a national presence.

"The party is attracting aspirants in droves since they want to be associated with an outfit that assures them of victory and is gaining [popularity] nationally," he said.

Hopefuls from regions such as Mandera, Turkana, Lamu, Bungoma, Busia, West Pokot, Wajir, Marsabit, Narok, Kisii, Migori and Nyeri have already joined.

Notable names have joined the party, such as former presidential adviser Kilemi Mwiria, Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, Mbeere North MP Charles Njagangua, nominated MP Robert Mutemi, Embu Deputy Governor Dorothy Nditi and 15 sitting Embu MCAs.

"People want to be associated with a party that is fair, democratic and transparent in its operations as I can confidently say that the party will be among the top three super parties of any serious coalition in the country," the governor said while receiving the new members at the party's offices in Lavington.

He observed that it is his development record in Machakos that has made the party attractive to others.

Speaking at the meeting, Senator Kivuti said Machakos residents have a visionary leader whose agenda is beyond Ukambani politics.

He said Dr Mutua is a transformative leader and a role model for others.

So far, Dr Mutua has conducted rallies nationwide, including in Meru, Embu, Mombasa, Nyeri, Nyandarua and Kisii to popularise his party.
