Nasa leaders rail at DP William Ruto over ‘big parties’

Leaders from the National Super Alliance (Nasa) constituent parties have dismissed a call by Deputy President William Ruto to dissolve their political outfits and form one big party.
Mr Ruto said the move would promote national unity.
“Nasa leaders should dissolve their political parties and form one strong opposition party. National unity can only be fostered through one strong political party and not small, weak political parties,” Mr Ruto said.
He was addressing Catholic faithful at the ASK Show-ground in Kitale Town on Sunday.
Nasa-allied politicians Monday said the DP’s call as unwelcome.
ARROGANCE AND HUBRIS
“He is a competitor. How can he purport to advise us?” wondered Ford Kenya secretary-general Eseli Simiyu. “This is Mr Ruto in his usual condescending manner. This is a sign of arrogance and hubris.”
ODM secretary-general Edwin Sifuna told the DP to check the Constitution, which “provides that Kenya is a multi-party democracy. Not a two-party democracy.”
ANC secretary-general Barack Muluka challenged the DP to state his interest.
“What is his property in Nasa? He can’t advise us on what to do.” Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi asked the DP to keep off Nasa affairs.
