-On arrival, President Kibaki is received by Gen Karangi

-President is escorted to ceremonial Land Rover by Gen Karangi

- The chief registrar, Ms Shollei, takes her position to administer the oath or solemn affirmation of allegiance and oath or solemn affirmation of due execution of the functions of the office to the president-elect before Chief Justice Willy Mutunga

- Dr Mutunga introduces the President-elect and Deputy President-elect to the nation

- Ms Shollei administers oath or solemn affirmation of allegiance to the President-elect

- The new president signs the certificate of inauguration in the presence of the Chief Justice

- Outgoing President Kibaki hands over the instruments of power and authority (Commander-in-Chief ceremonial sword and the Constitution) to President Kenyatta

- National Anthem (Three stanzas and simultaneous raising of the presidential standard of the new President and lowering of the presidential standard of the outgoing President)

- Outgoing President receives his presidential standard from Gen Karangi

- Dr Mutunga invites the Deputy President-elect to take his position
