Uhuru to take up EAC reins Saturday

Saturday, EAC, Commerce and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phylis Kandie took over the chairmanship of the Community’s Council of Ministers during a meeting in Kampala, Uganda.
President Kenyatta is expected to attend the EAC Heads of State and Governments Summit in Kampala Saturday before succeeding President Yoweri Museveni.
COUNCIL'S DECISION
It was decided during a council of ministers’ meeting in Uganda last week that President Kenyatta replaces President Museveni as EAC chairman, after Rwanda’s Paul Kagame indicated he was not ready to take over the rotational position.
Thursday, Ms Kandie said it was a great honour for Kenya to be handed the chairmanship of the Community “and one we accept with humility, enthusiasm and a keen sense of responsibility.”
“I wish to register our total commitment to the EAC and I want you to know we shall pursue the pillars of determination doggedly and we will safeguard all progress made to this point,” she said.
