Google will appeal the European Union decision Wednesday to slap a record 4.34 billion-euro ($5 billion, Sh507bn) antitrust fine over the use of its Android operating system, a company spokesman said.

"Android has created more choice for everyone, not less," Google spokesman Al Verney said in a statement.

"We will appeal the (European) Commission's decision."
