Abaka missing as KDF coast to emphatic win

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) celebrated Mashujaa Day on a high when they became the National Boxing League third leg winners after amassing 18 points during the finals at Uwanja wa Mbuzi in Mombasa on October 20.
KDF was followed by the surprise Mombasa team, Kongowea Boxing Club who got 12 points as Prisons finished third with nine points. Kenya National Hospital (KNH), Omar Kasongo Sports Academy (OKSA) and Kentrack are level on five points at fourth place.
Dallas were seventh having got three points while Coast Combined, Thika and Nairobi share eighth spot. Kisumu and Ndereru were last without any point.
Benson Kyalo of Dallas gave his team the only victory when he outpointed Thika’s Martin Maina during light flyweight bout. Mohamed Hussein of Kibra won his flyweight contest when his opponent Charles Macharia of Dallas was disqualified for hitting under the belt.
It was all cheers as Mombasa boxer Hazard Nassir of Kongowea was declared the winner on points over KDF’s Isaac Meja during the bantamweight contest. But Nassir's teammate Said Baghwani failed to win the lightweight crown after Stanley Ogutu of Kentrack beat him on points.
In light welterweight, Isaiah Odhiambo of Kongowea won 2-1 over Kibra’s John Juma. Another home boxer Michael Ochieng (Kongowea) also took the welterweight title when he beat Lawrence Okuta of KDF.

Fredrick Onyango of KDF forced Prisons’ Collins Nyakwaya to retire in round one of their heavyweight contest while Fredrick Onyango (KDF) also made his opponent George Owiti (Prisons) to retire in the first round of super heavyweight fight.
