Kenya’s Commonwealth Games chief de mission Barnabas Korir has assured the national boxing team- the “Hit Squad” that they will get their training gear before the end of this week.

He made the assurance after the team, which started residential camp at the Madison Square Garden gymnasium in Nakuru on Tuesday said they had no training gear.

“There is no cause for alarm as the procurement process of the training gear is being worked out at the Ministry of Sports and I am working hard to make sure they get all they need for their training,” said Korir.

He added: “I am taking this matter personally to make sure the boxers get their training equipment and I urge them to be patient as they will get what they deserve.”

MAKING NOISE

Speaking to Nation Sport, Korir said he was surprised the team was making noise now yet when they were preparing for an international friendly build up match in India in January, they did not raise a similar complain while they trained and went to New Delhi.

“I would like to assure the team that the steering committee has committed officials who are working round the clock to ensure they have all what they need at the training camp,” said Korir.

“As sportsmen we should avoid complaining about everything because, as Chief de Mission my cardinal responsibility is to make sure the team’s welfare is well catered for and since I have not surrendered they should be patient as their issues are sorted out,” said Korir.
