Kenya Defence Forces boxing team honoured their departed assistant coach Collins Bulinda, in great style when they won the fourth leg of the SportPesa National Boxing League by garnering 25 points at the Madison Square Garden in Nakuru on Saturday night.

Bulinda would have been part of the soldiers’ winning squad in Nakuru but was shot by unknown assailants on October 13 in Nairobi.

Simon Mulinge put KDF on the winning path when he used his formidable arsenal to beat a stubborn Charles Macharia of Dallas 2-1 in an evenly matched fight.

But it was at the bantamweight contest that KDF went full blast when Isaac Meja unleashed a barrage of hooks and devastating body shots on Joshua Mwangi of G44-Soweto, winning the match on majority points decision.

Nick Okoth of KDF, who is also the African lightweight champion, sustained the momentum and proved that he has no equal when he ringed Ethan Maina of Kenya Police with sharp head blows delivered via deadly hooks and damaging uppercuts. Not surprising, he won on a majority points verdict.

In an explosive middleweight clash, Edwin Okongo of KDF used his speed to overpower Humphrey Ochieng of Kenya Police 3-0.

International Nick Abaka of KDF overwhelmed his rival Elly Ajowi of Police in a thrilling light heavyweight bout that had the crowd on its toes for the entire three rounds.

Abaka started the contest by blasting Ajowi with several quick left-right combinations as he cleverly evaded his opponent’s hooks before  winning the fight on a 3-0 majority decision.

“I was on a revenge mission. Ajowi has defeated me twice but I wanted to prove to him that his honeymoon is over and I am now in control,” a happy looking Abaka said after climbing down from the ring.

In the battle of heavies KDF’s Fredrick Onyango beat Tobias Okeyo of Kenya Police on a split point decision.
