Kentrack keen on reviving Bak commissions

The revival of commissions at Boxing Association of Kenya (Bak) will help the country rediscover its lost glory, according to Bak presidential aspirant Kennedy “Kentrack” Otieno.

Otieno said if elected president during Bak elections slated for November 16 he will prioritise resuscitation of the Coaches, Boxers, Judges and Referee and Finance Commissions.

Kentracknoted that many challenges have contributed to the stagnation of the sport but he singled out mismanagement of the National Boxing League as well as closure of many boxing mentorship and training facilities.

Otieno, whose slogan is “Haki na Usawa”, disclosed that the Coaches Commission will be tasked with ensuring a competent technical bench is put in place to promote fairness and transparency in national team selection.

“Boxers will be able to freely express their views and concerns through their Commissions while the Judges and Referees Commission will help end the cartels that have ruined the game and careers of many boxers through biased officiating and corruption,” said Otieno who doubles up as the Bak Nairobi County chairman.

Under Kentrack, professionals will be incorporated in the Finance Commission to source and manage funds from sponsors set aside for Bak programs.

"With funds, there will be stability and boxing will grow hence the revival of regional tournaments like the Inter City and Brunners-Urafiki tournaments that involved internationals boxers from Uganda and Tanzania and other countries in our region," said Kentrack, who prides himself in nurturing Kenya’s history-making 2018 Commonwealth Games flyweight bronze medallist Christine Ongare.

Kentrack will contest for the presidential seat with former heavyweight boxer Anthony “Jamal” Otieno after incumbent John Kameta confirmed he won’t seek re-election.
