What you need to know:

  • Meddie Kagere's name missing as Gor names Caf squad.
  • Gor secretary-general Ronald Ngala said Kagere’s the management was still negotiating the renewal of the striker’s contract.
  • Gor has given defender David “Cheche” Ochieng' until Monday to make up his mind about signing for the club.
  • Former Sofapaka defender Felly Mulumba and striker Meshack Karani are in the Bandari list.

Rwanda international Meddie Kagere’s name was conspicuously missing from the list as SportPesa Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia and GOtv Shield holders Bandari submitted their tentative squads for this year’s continental club competitions.

K’Ogalo submitted a 21-man list on the December 31 deadline while Bandari sent their list two days earlier.

Gor secretary-general Ronald Ngala said Kagere’s no-show was because the management was still negotiating the renewal of the striker’s contract.

He added that the list will be modified in the next two weeks.

“We could not include Kagere’s name because his contract with the club has expired and we are still negotiating its renewal,” Ngala said.

“We are also talking to (Michael) Olunga but we have included his name anyway because he still has a contract with the club.”

Olunga has attracted interest all over Africa following his sterling performance in the 2015 season and Gor will be hard pressed to hold on to him.

MAKE UP HIS MIND

Ngala revealed that the management had given defender David “Cheche” Ochieng' until Monday to make up his mind about signing for the club.

Also in the list are Gor’s new recruit Francis Kahata, formerly of Thika United, and goalkeeper Gradus Ochieng, who featured for Nairobi City Stars last season, as well as rookie defender Erick Ouma from Kakamega High School.

Former Sofapaka defender Felly Mulumba and striker Meshack Karani are in the Bandari list.

Bandari spokesman Ernest Mbalanya told Saturday Nation Sport that they will add some more players before January 15.

“We beat the deadline, and now we are just waiting for Caf (Confederation of African Football) to respond,” he said. “The list we provided covered all the players that the coach wanted but we will add three more.”

Gor are scheduled to play CNaPS of Madagascar in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League on February 14. Bandari will begin their first ever continental sojourn on February 13 with a Confederation Cup preliminary round fixture against St Eloi Lupopo from the Republic of Congo.
