Nairobi 'A' dominates novice boxing championships

Vihiga, Kilifi, Busia and Nairobi 'A" put in dominant performance as they each had four boxers in the National Novices Boxing Championships quarterfinals on Wednesday evening at County Hall, Nairobi.
Kwale, Kisumu and Kenya Prisons had three boxers apiece easing through to the quarterfinals alongside Nakuru and Kakamega, who had two pugilists each.
A huge turnout of 124 boxers from 18 counties made it to the first round of the championships that entered its quarterfinals on Thursday. Semi-finals will be held on Friday evening followed by the finals on Saturday evening. Four women finals will also be on offer on Saturday evening.

Nelson Musa from Vihiga claimed a split point 2-1 decision victory against Said Juma from Montana to advance to the quarterfinals of the light welterweight.
Still in the same category, Kilifi's Juma Said bundled out Dominic Mbuthia of Muranga 2-1 while Busia's Hassan Wanende outclassed David Ochieng Chief of Police 2-1 to advance.
Vihiga's Sila Sudi edged out Steve Omondi of Prisons as Kilifi's Donald Shivatsi beat Benjamin Ashivono from Trans Nzoia to glide through to the quarterfinals of his middleweight contest.
Evans Thoya from Busia and William Kiplagat from Kakamega bundled out Siaya' s Morfat Ochieng and Ken Otieno of Nairobi "B" 2-1 respectively to advance in middleweight.
Kisumu's Kevin Otieno knocked out Morgan Omar from Mombasa while Chris Ochana of Nairobi "A" outclassed Kajiado's Bernard Ndungu 3-0.
Livingstone Munaya (Vihiga) beat Castro Munaya (Siaya) 2-1 in their lightweight contest as Vincent Chogo (Busia) and John Nyoro (Nairobi "A") bundled out Joshua Onyango (Mombasa) and Daniel Odhimabo (Kwale) respectively in the same category.
Steve Biko (Vihiga) and Silas Ouma (Nakuru) claimed knockout victories against Rogers Omondi ( Trans Nzoia) and Hamas Kombo ( Kilifi) in welterweight.
