Efforts by Kenya’s 4x400m mixed relays team to wrap up the World Under-18 Championships in style fell a cropper after they finished fourth behind winners Brazil as the competition ended Sunday at Kasarani.

A slow start by Kelvin Sawe seemed to have been the difference as Gloria Mulei’s attempt to bridge the gap failed with Brazil and Jamaica cruising.

Kenya sunk to fourth when Mulei was overtaken by South Africa’s Retshidisitswe with 50m to handover.

There was a slight change when World Under-18 400m silver medallist Mary Moraa was handed the baton but her efforts yielded nothing with South Africa widening the gap towards the end. Anchor David Sanayek had little to do as Kenya came in fourth in 3:24.92.
