Nairobi’s Mutuini Hope Centre, a care and education centre for needy children, will hold a fund-raising half marathon on April 29 in Dagoretti South Constituency with the Chinese embassy in Nairobi among the chief sponsors.

Besides the half marathon, there will also be a 10-kilometre race and special, three-and-a-half-kilometre special run.

Athletics Kenya, who have sanctioned the race, are offering technical support including route mapping and officiating under the leadership of the association’s Dagoretti Sub-County chairman and coach John “Warm-up” Mwithiga.

The centre, which is located in Mutuini Ward, Dagoretti South Constituency, supports more than 100 needy children with food, health care and education.

The charity race is aimed at raising money to fund the operations of the centre. So far, the Chinese embassy in Nairobi, mineral water company Aquamist and the Nairobi Hospital have come on board to support the initiative.

The race organisers are calling on companies and individuals of goodwill to support the event in order to give children a better chance in life.

Registration of participants will open from April 3 in various registration centres to be announced in the next week.
