Eight hundred metres world record holder and Olympic champion David Rudisha is set for the Sydney Track Classic on Saturday at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Australia.

Rudisha last competed at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland in July last year where he won silver, losing to Amos Nijel from Botswana.

Rudisha, who has been training in endurance and speed workout in Iten said in an earlier interview that he was determined to make a great comeback by reclaiming his World crown this year in China before his Olympic title defence next year in Rio de Janeiro.

After Saturday, the 26-year-old athlete said he intended run at IAAF Melbourne World Challenge in Australia on March 21.

Rudisha will also open his 2015 Diamond League season at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on June 7.

Unlike when he used to warm up for his season with 400m races, Rudisha said he will focus on 800m only this season.

“That is not to say am not well. The good news is that my training is going on well and I am not experiencing any problems,” said Rudisha before leaving for Australia.

“I have had a fantastic training session here in Melbourne City and I am looking forward to Sydney Track Classic,” said Rudisha, who thanked everyone for support.

“It’s really motivating to have you as my friends, I wish you the best also in all your endeavours and may the good Lord shines upon you,” said Rudisha on his Facebook page.

Talking about his recovery from a knee injury that saw him fail to defend his World title at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Rudisha noted that even though an injury can heal well physically, there is also a psychological challenge to the recovery.

Rudisha hit the track again last season, winning two Diamond League events in New York and Glasgow.
