Celebrated Kirwa to return as Kenyan coach at worlds

Julius Kirwa is to return as Kenya's head athletics coach for August's world championships in Beijing, officials said Thursday.

Kirwa, one of the country's most successful coaches having guided Kenya at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, is one of four technical officials named to lead the team to the August 12 to 30 championships in the Chinese capital.

Kirwa, a Kenya Army officer, will be assisted by namesake Isaac Kirwa, who also serves as coach of the Kenya police athletics team.

Gibert Koech, who is husband of two-time women's world marathon champion Edna Kiplagat will handle the women's marathon team in Beijing.
