Kipchoge to drive off with Isuzu gift

- Kipchoge lowered the marathon record time, previously held by Dennis Kimetto at two hours, two minutes and 57 seconds, to 2:01:39.
- Other top athletes who are expected to attend the occasion include New York Marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor, who is also the world half marathon and cross country champion, Toronto Marathon champion Philemon Rono, marathoner Abel Mutai, former two-time world marathon champion Abel Kirui and former 3,000m steeplechase champion Hyvin Kiyeng.
Berlin Marathon champion and fresh world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge will on Thursday drive off in a new Isuzu D-Max pick-up he was promised by Isuzu East Africa for shattering the 42-kilometre mark.
According to Isuzu communications manager Dancan Muhindi, the athlete will be rewarded with a brand new luxury Isuzu D-Max at the Eldoret Sports Club.
“We’ve seen great value in bringing together the strong brands of Isuzu and Eliud, appointing him as our Isuzu D-Max brand ambassador is a great achievement.
“Earlier this month, we renewed our partnership with Eliud for another two years, promising to reward him with a new luxury Isuzu D-Max double cabin pick-up valued at Sh5.9 million if he broke the world record,” said Muhindi.
“During the 2018 Berlin Marathon, Kipchoge delivered an extraordinary performance and shattered the record. We are now set to deliver on our promise to him this Thursday (today),” added Muhindi.
He also said that the athlete will be using another Isuzu vehicle for his usual training since that is part of the contract he signed for.
“Kipchoge is a great athlete and Isuzu will always support him in his career. He will continue using the other vehicle for his training because that is part of the contract,” added Muhindi.
