Tatu City developer has partnered with former world cross country champion Lorna Kiplagat to design a running track on the 5,000-acre piece of land.

Apart from the running track, the developer will put up an ultra-modern fitness centre that would be open to the residents, visitors and international athletes.

TRAINING CENTRE

Kiplagat brings a wealth of expertise, being the owner of the Kiplagat’s High Altitude Training Centre in Iten in Elegeyo Marakwet County which she runs with her husband Pieter Langerhorst. The camp is one of the most sought after training centres by local and international athletes.

“The opportunity to plan the track and a modern fitness centre of a new city is a thrilling experience, I promise to give my best,” said Kiplagat.

The celebrated athlete said the upcoming health and wellness centre will be a game changer. Kiplagat said Tatu City’s ample green space is ideal for runners.

“Most of the city residents are constrained by time to train and keep fit because of the tight schedule, but with a fitness and running track right outside their homes, they will have no reason not to visit the facility and improve on their health status,” said Kiplagat during the lunch of the partnership on Saturday.

PARTNERSHIP

Kenya Country head of Rendeavour, Tatu City’s owner and developer, Mr Chris Barron welcomed the partnership, saying she will play a critical role in making the project one of the best in the region.

“Lorna will play a pivotal role in the design of the health-centric connectivity between homes, offices, schools, health facilities and businesses, as well as in the broader recreational amenities at Tatu City,” said Mr Barron.

He added: “We are greatly honoured to partner with a living legend like Lorna.”

The construction of the fitness centre and the track comes at a time when the city is taking shape with more than 6,000 homes under construction.

Several developments including institutions such as Nova Pioneer and Crawford International School are also taking shape.

Most home buyers are rushing to Tatu City in Kiambu County to escape congestion in Nairobi.

The development of this metropolitan city will give businesses an opportunity to invest outside Nairobi and its environs.
