Stars for Chemususu Half Marathon

World marathon record holder Mary Keitany and former Boston Marathon champion Geoffrey Mutai are among the elite athletes who will line up at the annual Chemususu Dam Half Marathon to be held next week on Saturday.

Over 1,500 athletes are expected compete in the race which will have competitions in the 21, 10 and five kilometre categories.

There will also be veteran’s race. Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament Moses Lessonet, said the objective of the 5th Chemususu Dam Half Marathon is to raise funds for the Uzalendo School, an education centre for needy children in Baringo County.

In a press statement, Lessonet, who is the founder and patron of both the Eldama Ravine Education Foundation and the Chemusususu Dam Half marathon, said they aim to raise at least Sh20 million.

“Uzalendo school operates on the Starehe Boys and Starehe Girls centres model, we educate poor children for free,” said Lessonet.

“The money raised from the marathon will benefit the needy students.”

Lessonet added that the marathon would also raise awareness about environmental conservation.
