A huge party has been organised to welcome world 800m champion David Rudisha at his rural home in Kilgoris.
Twenty bulls will be slaughter for an anticipated 10,000 guests who will attend the “mother of all parties” in honour of one of Kilgoris most famous son according to the organizers led by businessman Taleng’o ole Kiptunen.
The party, to be held next week, will begin in Nairobi moments after Rudisha lands at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Rudisha, who retained the world 800 meters title in the recently ended World Championship in Daegu, will jet into the country on Monday after competing in the Diamond League in Zurich according to Athletics Kenya South Rift Treasurer Paul Keriako.
“He is one of the most successful athletes in the race in the world in recent times and we want to give him more than just the casual reception he is used to in the past,” said Kiptunen.
He added: “We want to hold a big bash for him as he has not only done us proud as a community but he has also proved to the whole world that 800m race will continue to be a Kenyan preserve for many years to come.”
Hundreds of Rudisha’s rural folk are also expected to join the party in Nairobi and give him a hero’s welcome.
