  • Rabar said all the 47 counties will now have their mobile clinics thanks to the noble initiative of the “Beyond Zero” campaign started by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta three years ago.

An estimated Sh288 million in cash and kind was raised during the third edition of the First Lady’s Half Marathon held on March 6 in Nairobi.

Race organiser Mike Rabar of Homeboyz said even although 22,000 people registered for the event, 40,000 turned up at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Rabar said all the 47 counties will now have their mobile clinics thanks to the noble initiative of the “Beyond Zero” campaign started by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta three years ago.

“I am happy to announce that after all the counties received their clinics, the First Lady will, in due course, launch another major project with the regional governments,” said Rabar.

BIGGER AND BETTER

He said next year’s race promises to be more successful, bigger and better.

Rabar was speaking after presenting a cheque of Sh 5.79 million to Athletics Kenya for winners of this year’s First Lady’s Half Marathon.

AK president Lieutenant General (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei received the cheque at Riadha House on Wednesday.

Tuwei promised to crack down organisers of races who have gone underground with athletes’ prize money, such as the Lari Half Marathon.

“I am happy there were no incidents of cheating at First Lady’s race after all the blood tests returned negative,” said Tuwei.
