Stephen Soi charged with graft over Rio scandal

Former Principal Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts, Richard Titus Ekai and 2016 Rio Olympic Games Team Kenya Chef De Mission Stephen Soi were on Monday charged with graft at the Anti-Corruption Court, Milimani, Nairobi.

Also charged before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti alongside the two officials for abuse of office is the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) secretary general Francis Paul Kinyili.

The three were freed on a cash bail of Sh1m each after being charged with graft-related offenses.

Prosecution was seeking warrant of arrest against former Nock President legendary Hezekiah Kipchoge Keino and former cabinet secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts, Dr Hassan Wario for the misappropriation of Sh 55 million during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Also being sought for prosecution over same charges are former Director of Administration in the ministry for Sports, Culture and the Arts, Harun Komen and former Finance Officer in the ministry for Sports, Culture and the Arts, Patrick Kimathi Nkabu.
