Stage set for AK weekend meeting in Mombasa

Arrangements are in top gear for the sixth leg of Athletics Kenya weekend track and field meeting to be held at Shanzu Teachers Training College grounds in Mombasa on Friday and Saturday.

Athletics Kenya (AK) Coast branch chairman  Dimmy Kisalu Monday said 13 teams, among them Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya National Police Services, Kenya Prisons, teams from all six Coast region counties and 16 AK regional teams, have confirmed participation.

Kisalu was optimistic that top athletes will be in Mombasa this weekend to stay in top shape ahead of national team selection for the Africa Senior Athletics Championship to be held in Nigeria in July.

“The World will be in Mombasa this weekend as top runners are expected to be here to show their might and convince Team Kenya selectors ahead of the continental championship in Nigeria,” Kisalu said on Monday.

Kisalu told Nation Sport that Athletics Kenya’s top officials will be in attendance.

“I hope sports fans will turn up in great numbers to watch athletes fight it out for national team selection,” he said.

The fifth leg of Athletics Kenya Track and Field meeting was held at Mumias Sugar Sports Complex in Kakamega County last weekend.
