Strathmore leave Eagle Wings no room to flutter

Strathmore University registered their second win in the 2018 women’s Premier League when they rocked Eagle Wings 59-28 at USIU-A Outdoor courts Sunday.

The varsity students had a strong start leading 21-6 at the end of first quarter.

Eagle Wings, who had beaten Footprints 54-44 in their last match, played poorly to trail 15-36 at half-time.

Strathmore, popularly known as Swords completely kept experienced Eagle Wings outside their “D” area as they continued to punish them, outscoring them in the third quarter (11-9) and fourth quarter (12-4) for a comfortable win.

Eagle Wings suffered their second defeat after their season opener 19-38 loss to Zetech University. Newcomers Footprints had their dream of winning their first Premiership match going up in smoke when Storms rocked them 44-41.

Coach Juma Kent’s newly promoted Footprints, who lost their third Premier League match in a row, were down 17-18 at the breather after a bruising session.

Daizy Ayodi and Emily Achieng were behind Footprints commendable showing the latter stages of the match in which they outscored Storms 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

In men’s Division One League tie at the same venue, Barclays Bank needed over-time to beat Strathmore University 74-68.

The two battling sides had locked the scores 65-65 in regulation time forcing the regulatory five minutes of over-time to try and separate them.

Barclays Bank held their nerves to outscore the students 9-3. Strathmore had rallied from behind 18-39 at the breather to tie the game after outscoring the bankers 19-16 in the third and 28-20 in the fourth quarter.
