Zetech University women’s team, coached by coach Maurice Obilo, punished Storms 63-50 after getting off to a bright start with 17-9 first quarter lead.

Becky Nkatha, who shot three three-pointers in the first quarter, coordinated well with team-mate Linda Kimemia to take the winners to 30-20 at half-time.

After going down 11-21 in the third quarter, veteran Anjela Luchivya, who scored 17 points, was the main actor in Storms’ 19-12 run in the last quarter.

Nkatha scored 16 and Kimemia 10 for Zetech, while Storms, who are now coached by Abel Nson, replied with 10 points through the hard work of experienced Sylvia Omollo.

In the men’s Premier League tie, captain Jeremy Opiyo sunk 27 points as Zetech University rallied from behind to beat Lions 60-50 in a balanced first leg mach.

Lions, who had veteran Dennis ‘Dikembe’ Opiyo sinking 16 points and John Acholla 10, started giving the varsity students problems from the first whistle to lead 30-27 at half-time.

Zetech, were under heavy pressure in the second quarter in which Lions outscored them 25-15. It was in the last two quarters that Zetech coach Job Munene changed his game plan to hit their opponents 16-11 and 17-9.

"We improved on our defence after losing carelessly to Co-op Bank weekend to garner two points. My boys learned a lesson after
throwing away a 12-point lead against the bankers," said Munene.

Blades garnered two points after defeating newcomers Umoja 70-38 in a Premier League match in which the winners dictated terms from start to lead 36-10 at the break.

Blades' man-of-the match Shilton Ochieng scored 20 points and team-mate Joseph Ongoro added 10 while Nick Ogol managed 11 for the losers. In the lower tier men’s match Strathmore University rocked fellow students Kenyatta University Pirates 82-60 after leading with a huge 48-29 score at the breather.
