Obanda's half-ton lifts Swamibapa past Gymkhana

Opening batsman Alex Obanda on Sunday knocked half century in the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Elite Super League as Swamibapa humiliated Nairobi Gymkhana by 50 runs.

Obannda’s 67 came off 75 deliveries with seven boundaries and three sixes and was Swamibapa’s highest runs getter.

Batting first, Swamibapa set a target of 203 by the time all their batsmen were back in the pavilion with 31 balls of their allotted 50 overs in hand. Morris Ouma (32 off 39 balls with a boundary) and Naman Patel (30 off 52 balls with three boundaries) were Swamibapa’s batsmen who posted meaningful figures on the scoreboard.

Dominic Wesonga was Gymkhana’s most economical bowler with three wickets for nine runs conceded. A. Amin (3/43), S. Vijayasinh (2/40), Lucas Oluoch (1/24) and R. Savala (1/31) were the other wicket takers.

In reply, Gymkhana scored 152 all out in 39 overs. Veer Dave (35) top-scored for Gymkhana. Lucas Oluoch (27) and Harsh Patel (17) were the other players who did well with the bat. Naman was Gymkhana’s main destroyer taking five wickets for 25.

At Samaj School Cutchi Leva suffered their second successive defeat after losing to Stray Lions by seven wickets. Batting first, Cutchi Leva scored 147 all out in 34.1 overs. In reply, Lions reached the target, 149 with seven wickets in hand in just 13.5 overs.

It was Lion’s first victory as they lost their opening match to Kanbis, who beat them by 26 runs.
