Kanbis kick off their league defence on a winning note

Kanbis on Saturday started their defence of Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) Super Division Twenty20 title on a winning note when they beat Sikh Union by 38 runs at Eastleigh High School grounds.

Batting first, Kanbis set a target of 151 runs by the time they completed tehri allotted 20 overs with a wicket to spare. Dhiren Gondaria was Kanbis’s top scorer with 63 runs that came off 25 deliveries with four boundaries and the same number of sixes.

Ramesh Mepani (32 off 28 balls with three boundaries), Nelson Odhiambo (10), and Sachin Bhudia (10) were the only other Kanbis’ batsmen who posted double digit figures on the scoreboard.

Sikh Union’s wickets were shared among Haraj Sohal (3/33), Gurleen Singh (1/12), Akash Sharma (1/16),Vraj Patel (1/26) and Charanpreen Aidhy (1/25). In reply Sikh Union were dismissed for 112 with eight balls in hand.

Jasraj Kundi top scored for Sikh Union with 38 that came off 28 balls with four boundaries and a six. Sukdeep Singh (37 off 25 balls with six boundaries and a six), Charanpreen (14) and Gurleen (11) were the other Sikh Union batsmen, who contributed meaningful runs for their team.

Jasraj Mepani (3/23) and Pushpak Kerai (3/25) were Sikh Union’s main executioners. Rakep Patel (2/13), Nischay Kerai (1/13) were the other wicket takers.

Elsewhere Swamibapa (152 for 4 in 20 overs) beat Kongonis (141 for 6 in 20 overs) by 11 runs. Irfan Karim (45 off 40 balls with four boundaries and a six) and Morris Ouma with unbeaten 39 that came off 29 balls  got most runs for Swamibapa. For Kongonis James Jevons (40 off 35 balls with for boundaries) was highest scorer.
