Kenya women win Rwandan T20 cricket tourney

Kenya women’s cricket team on Sunday clinched this year’s Kwibuga Cricket for Peace Twenty20 trophy when they beat Uganda by 39 runs at Gahanga Cricket Oval in Kigali, Rwanda.

Batting first, Kenya set a target of 138 for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Veronica Anyango top scored for Kenya with half a century, 52 that came off 49 deliveries with eight boundaries and a six.

Anyango and her opening partner, Mary Wambui (8 off 18 balls) gave their team a flying start with an opening partnership of 41. Anyango also shared a second wicket stand of 43 with Sylvia Kinyua (22 off 19 balls with two boundaries).

Margaret Banja (25 off 17 balls with three boundaries) was the other batsman who posted double digit figures on the scoreboard.

Uganda’s wicket were shared among Immaculate Nakisuyi (1/15), Stephanie Nampima (1/38) and Jane Baluka (1/28).

In reply, Uganda managed to score 98 runs with four wickets in hand by the time they completed their allotted overs.

Nampiima top scored for Uganda with an unbeaten 27 that came off 28 balls with a boundary.

Ann Nyampendi (14 off 18 balls with a boundary), Nakisuyi (12 off 22 balls ) and Jane Baluka (13 off 30 balls with two boundaries) were Uganda’s batsmen, who scored meaningful runs for their side.
