Cricket Kenya Interim Committee chairman Harpan Singh Sehmi on Saturday confirmed that the board’s general manager, Josephat Murithi, is not on compulsory leave.

Sehmi was reacting to local reports that indicated that the Cricket Kenya general manager had been sent on compulsory leave.

When asked to comment on the progress they have made so far in the making of the new constitution, Sehmi said: “We should be able to hold fresh elections under a new constitution in August if all goes well.”

He added: “Once the constitution is drafted, it will be ratified by county associations which must have complied with the Sports Act 2013.”

A member of the sub-committee drafting the document, who chose to remain anonymous as he was not authorised to speak on behalf of the interim committee, said that they were given a go ahead to make a new constitution by the International Cricket Council’s Chief Executive Officer David Richardson.

Richardson was attending a four-day Africa Cricket Association/International Cricket Council Regional Conference at Azure Westlands Hotel, Nairobi that ran from Saturday May 5 to 8.

Richardson met with the interim committee last Saturday. He directed ICC head of global development, William Glenwright and Africa Cricket Association development manager, Patricia Kambarami to handle the Kenya situation and report back to him.

The interim committee met the two officials on Sunday.
