Bandari became the first Coastal club to reach the 60 point mark in the modern day Kenyan Premier League

after humiliating Thika United 5-1 at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Sunday.

The Dockers, having already made history by securing second place, won convincingly to take their tally to an all-time high of 62 points.

The result did not paint a true picture of the game as Thika were impressive in some spells but were let down by their poor defence.

In fact they scored first before Sosthenes Idah's back pass found its way into his own net. Wycliffe Ochomo then scored to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at half time. In the second half, Yema Mwana got a brace and a late goal from Wilberforce Lugogo completed the rout.

Bandari FC coach Bernard Mwalala was elated by his charges who were ruthless on the day to put gloss on what has been a season of many firsts at the club.

“I’m happy that we ended the game in such a good fashion making our supporters leaving home happily. It is a historic season for us as we managed to finish runner-up and pass the 60 points mark, the first to be achieved by a Coastal team,” said Mwalala.

Thika United coach Gabriel "Kingi" Njoroge pointed out some laxity in his side that ultimately proved costly. He also took aim at the referee for some wrong calls.

“I’m sure if they had not relaxed and became over-confidence, we would have shocked Bandari," said Kingi.

“It was not a free-kick and such decisions are making teams lose matches they deserve to win,” he added in reference to a free kick which bore the third goal.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes through James Kinyanjui who beat Bandari goalkeeper Joseph Okoth with a powerful kick. Moments later, Idah without looking back made a back pass which beat his goalkeeper Eliud Emase to level the scores.

Ochomo struck on 38 minutes before Bandai finally bossed the match in the second half buoyed by their fans. Mwana netted a double in the 78th and 88th before Lugogo crowned the day with a goal of his own at the stroke of full time.
