AFC Leopards, Nzoia Sugar clash at Bukhungu

What you need to know:

  • The big cats have failed to go past Nzoia Sugar in the last four encounters, their last encounter ending in a 1-1 draw two months ago.
  • The sugar millers have Hansel Ochieng as their most prized weapon.
  • The youthful winger is placed ninth on the scorers’ charts, having scored six goals for Nzoia so far.

The SportPesa Premier League heads to another busy period, with nine games lined up in various venues countrywide on Wednesday and Thursday.

Confederation of African Football has asked member countries to have their leagues conform to Fifa calendar by 2020, and teams have found themselves playing an average of three games every week so that the local league season can conclude by end of next month.

AFC Leopards who beat Bandari 2-1 on Sunday, make the trip to Kakamega to play Nzoia Sugar on Wednesday at Bukhungu Stadium. For motivation, Ingwe will be looking to keep their eight-game unbeaten run going, and this will also give them a chance to jump to the top half of the table.

Winger Paul Were and midfielder Whyvonne Isuza are enjoying the form of their lives, especially Isuza, who has hit rich vein of form at Leopards in recent weeks. Isuza has got five goals so far, two of the goals coming in the first few seconds of the game.

He will be preferred in the Ingwe attack together with Were, as fit-again Kenyan international David “Cheche” Ochieng stands in defence.

“Were and Ochieng have been phenomenal for the team and you can see their impact. We are performing better than ever before. I want to keep them in the team even after the end of this season, so I urge the management to have that taken care of. Our game against Nzoia will be quite tough. They are well organised and are enjoying good form but I know that we shall beat them,” said Leopards coach Cassa Mbungo.
