AFC Leopards on Wednesday beat Ugandan champions KCCA 2-1 in an exciting pre-season friendly match at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

New signing Joseph Kuria gave Leopards the lead in the opening half before Jaffery Owiti added a second with quarter of an hour remaining. The visitors pulled a goal back late on, via Clifton Okwaliga, but it was a case of too little too late.

“This was a good work-out against a quality side that knows what they are doing on the pitch. I am not happy with the way we conceded a soft goal at the end,” said Leopards coach Robert Matano after the match.

RECOVERED

This was KCCA’s third game in their Kenyan tour. The Mike Mutebi-coached side lost 4-2 to Gor Mahia in Nakuru on Saturday, and then recovered to beat Tusker by a solitary goal in Nairobi on Monday.

Leopards next assignment is the season opening KPL Super Cup against arch rivals Gor Mahia in Nakuru on Sunday. This will be followed by the preliminary clash of the Caf Confederation Cup contest against Malagasy side FOSA Juniors in Machakos a week later.
