Academy of Korogocho (Acakoro) coach Rashid Mohammed has urged the relevant authorities to implement orders issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta to have the National Youth Service (NYS) vacate from their Korogocho grounds.
The famous academy, founded in 2013, was in January 2015 thrown out of the facility and for the past three years, have spent about Sh1.1 million in renting alternative training grounds in the vicinity.
Speaking after receiving the Fifa World Cup trophy on Monday, President Kenyatta ordered the Cabinet Secretary for Gender and Youth Margaret Kobia to ensure the same is implemented.
“The young man I was sitting next to told me their pitch in Korogocho was taken away by the NYS and now we’ve agreed today and madam CS is there, she will rectify the situation,” the President said.
“NYS will relocate to a new place,” he added.

Their abrupt relocation forced them to either train in shifts in the squeezed field or seek alternatives at Our Lady of Fatima or Kariobangi North primary school grounds thus disrupting their training programme.
“We raise players from humble backgrounds but without a training facility it hinders our plans. We are therefore pleading with the government to help us get back the field,” coach Rashid told Nation Sport.
“We’ve more than 150 children here. We hope the orders will be implemented,” he added.
