Ailing ex-international Shedu appeals for help

Former Kenyan international Rishadi Shedu is set to undergo reconstructive surgery on his left ankle in India next month.

But this is subject to him raising Sh2 million to cater for his travel and medical costs.

The former Kenya Commercial Bank coach injured his ankle during training five years ago and despite undergoing three surgeries locally, his situation has gone from bad to worse and he is at the risk of losing the leg through amputation.

He has exhausted his medical cover and is now relying on well-wishers for the cost of his medical care.

Over the weekend, some of his former Harambee Stars colleagues visited him at his home in Majengo, Nairobi and set a date for a fund raiser to help him get treatment.

Former Football Kenya Federation president Sam Nyameya, who accompanied the ex internationals, donated Sh20,000 and offered to be the chief guest during a major fund raiser to be held on March 7 at the Hotel 680 in Nairobi.

FORM A FOUNDATION

Among the ex-internationals who have offered to help Shedu are Ricky Solomon who will chair the fund raising committee, John “Bobby” Ogolla, Mahmoud Abbass, Marshal Mulwa, Swaleh Ochieng “Oswayo”, Josiah Ougo and George Waweru.

The ex-internationals also mooted the of formation of the Sports Stars Foundation.

The foundation will raise funds to cater for the needs of retired sportsmen. It will also establish a savings and credit association to financially help sports people. European Football Association (Uefa) advisor Michael Hopkins has been proposed to lead in fund raising for the foundation while Mathare Youth Sports Association founder Bob Munro will sit in the board as one of the advisors. 

Donations to Shedu can be sent to Mpesa till number 295919 or KCB account name Rashid Khamis Ali, Account Number 1153967162.

“It is through such a foundation that ex internationals like Shedu will get help,” Nyamweya, the former FKF boss, said.

“But for now, we will marshal our resources to help him get treatment.”
