What you need to know:

  • So good was this Kenyan team on the day that it didn't miss two dependable strikers in the frame of midfielder Sven Yidah and Eric Kapaito, who missed the match through injury.
  • Sharks, who are targeting qualification to the group stage of this competition - a feat that comes with a Sh27 million prize money reward - look set to eliminate the Djiboutis and progress to the first round of the competition, where a potentially thrilling clash against top Ghana side Asante Kotoko, lies in wait.

Despite watching helplessly as his charges were handed a 6-1 thrashing by Kariobangi Sharks in the preliminaries of the Caf Confederation Cup on Tuesday, Artar Solat7 coach Mussa Mawa still managed to distribute a few threats in the direction of his opposite number.

Simply put, Mawa told Kariobangi Sharks coach William Muluhya to expect a different rematch in Djibouti City on Wednesday because that particular match will - unlike at Kasarani stadium - 'not be played on grass'.

He failed to expound on these claims and either way Muluhya seems least bothered.

In its stead, the youthful Kenyan coach insisted he would rather concentrate on improving his team's performances and at some point even joked he was ready to answer some of the questions from journalists in French.

"This tie is far from over, so nobody needs to remind me of that," said Muluhya.

"We made a strong start and that helped us to settle, then the players found spaces and we scored freely. We should have scored more. We have not qualified so the return leg will be interesting but atleast we now know what to expect."

Besides the strong words, Mawa was also honest enough to admit that his side was no match for the FKF SportPesa Shield champions.

"He said: "We struggled throughout the match. Technically they were much better especially on the flanks and had two strikers who were good at heading the ball. The return leg will be a different game, different conditions, different weather, and even the pitch. We do not have grass there."

George Abege, Sydney Lokale, Duke Abuya and Nixon Mondi were among the scorers for the Sharks side, which dominated from the opening whistle.
