A 73rd minute goal by second half substitute Boniface Akenga was enough to steer Bandari to a 1-0 victory over visiting AFC Leopards in a Kenya Premier League match at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Saturday.

Akenga, who came in for Shaaban Kenga in the 55th minute, controlled a David King’atua pass before calmly dribbling pasta defender and goalkeeper Ezekiel Owade before placing the ball into an empty net.

“I was impressed with the performance of Akenga who was calm in placing the ball into the net,” said Bandari coach Ken Odhiambo.

His Leopards counterpart Dennis Kitambi said: “I don’t want to blame the match official because our players lost a number of scoring chances. If they had taken all the chances that came their way, we could have won the match.”

Zoo taught sorry Tusker a lesson in a 3-1 hiding at Kericho Green Stadium.

At Camp Toyoyo, Ugandan Hassan Kikoyo came off the bench to score the winner for visiting Kakamega Homeboyz as they beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-1.

Former Tusker winger Noah Wafula got Homeboyz off the mark in the 36th minute before Paul Kamau levelled on 54 minutes.

This is the second win for Homeboyz against Sharks in five games. The result saw Homeboyz move to 16 points, two ahead of Sharks after 11 matches.

“The tactical change won us the game and I am happy that we had a good start,” Homeboyz coach Mike Mururi said after the match.

He added: “Anytime I introduce Hassan he always changes the tempo of the game and whenever he scores he runs to me for celebration.”

His opposite William Muluya moved to congratulate the match winner Kikoyo for a well-executed strike.

“What worked out was an excellent goal from Homeboyz, otherwise we need composure to start getting positive results,” said Muluya, whose side has gone four matches without a win.
