Bandari maul Wazito to end poor run

Bandari Friday bounced back to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over visiting Wazito at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

Captain of the day Shaban Kenga led from the front scoring a brace for the dockers with Yema Mwana and David Otieno's own goal sealing maximum points for the hosts. Mohamed Siraj scored in his own net to hand Wazito a consolation.

Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala praised his players for ending their poor run in emphatic fashion.

“I trust all my players and those I fielded today are are also in my first eleven so winning against our opponents was not a fluke,” said Mwalala who missed the services of regulars Abdalla Hassan, who is with Harambee Stars in Uganda for the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, as well the injured duo of captain Felly Mulumba and Fred Nkata.

Wazito coach Stewart Hall said his players could not match the physical display by their opponents.

“The hot humid condition also favoured our opponents,” he said.

The game started with both teams displaying tactical football. It was the visitors who tested Bandari goalkeeper Justin Ndikumana first through Derrick Otanga’s whose powerful shot was parried in the 12th minute.

Kenga almost gave his side the lead when he collected a fine pass from William Wadri but was denied by Wazito custodian Kevin Omondi who pulled a brilliant save.

But he made no mistake in the 28th minute when he headed home a cross from Cliff Kasuti. Five minutes later, the home team went further ahead when another cross from Kasuti took a wicked deflection off Otieno into the Wazito net.

A similar tale ensued on the other end in the 44th minute when Siraj guided the ball into his own net while trying to clear Otanga’s effort.

With temperatures soaring, Bandari controlled the entire second half and they got their reward through Kenga and Mwana in the 81st and 84th minutes respectively.

The result sees Bandari end their five-match winless streak and leap to 12th place with 12 points.
